FTA Urges Governor Polis to Veto Overly Broad Surveillance Pricing and Wage Setting Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Financial Technology Association (FTA) urges Colorado Governor Jared Polis to veto House Bill 1210, overly broad surveillance pricing and wage setting legislation that could limit competition and unintentionally disrupt legitimate financial services and ecommerce operations that benefit Colorado businesses and consumers.

“Many merchants use tools that enable them to send returning customers a loyalty discount, recover abandoned carts with a targeted offer, or reward subscribers with member pricing. These are everyday tools that foster competition, ultimately benefitting the customer. While we appreciate the General Assembly’s interest in preventing harmful or discriminatory pricing practices, we are concerned that the bill’s overly broad definitions could inadvertently capture a wide range of standard business practices, including those mentioned above, that help businesses compete and provide effective and beneficial services to consumers.”
