The Honorable Tim Scott
Chairman, Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs
United States Senate
RE: Accredited Investor Alliance Support for Paul Atkins Nomination to Chair the SEC

Dear Chairman Scott:

Thank you for convening yesterday’s hearing to consider President Trump’s nominee, Paul Atkins, to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The undersigned organizations, which comprise the Accredited Investor Alliance (AIA), support Mr. Atkins’s nomination to lead the SEC and urge your panel to advance his confirmation.

As you know, Mr. Atkins previously served with distinction as a commissioner of the SEC and has many decades of leadership in the financial sector. Mr. Atkins has long been an advocate for sensible regulatory reform and throughout his career has worked to promote capital formation, improve U.S. financial markets, educate investors and cultivate sector innovation.

One necessary step to further strengthen America’s financial markets, increase investor access to wealth-building opportunities and support businesses of all kinds is to expand accredited investor eligibility. Stakeholders established the AIA to advocate for broadening the accredited investor definition while preserving appropriate investor protections, which would help democratize access to investment opportunities and foster capital formation, ensuring that a broader demographic can partake in the financial growth and innovation our country offers. To that end, the AIA appreciates your leadership to expand accredited investor eligibility as proposed in your Empowering Main Street in America Act, introduced last Congress.

Thank you again for scheduling yesterday’s confirmation hearing. We look forward to working with Chairman Atkins, the Commission and your team to help advance policies that would grow our economy, expand capital access and broaden the accredited investor definition while maintaining vital investor protections.

Sincerely,

Accredited Investor Alliance
